Helen is an independent Business Continuity Management Trainer and Consultant (based in Leeds). This freelance status immediately follows a year working with one of the leading Business Continuity & Information Security consultancy firms in the UK and two years initiating and delivering Business Continuity Management for the UK's leading Internet Service Provider.
Prior to this, Helen accrued seven years of business and management experience including marketing, advertising, online production and best practice, business development, contact centre management, operations, customer experience, corporate governance and people management. This unique mix and wide range of operational and strategic skills has proved to be an invaluable basis on which to build her Business Continuity capabilities.
In recognition of her Business Continuity and Crisis Management work for the ISP, Helen Sweet (nee Pettet) was awarded the prestigious international title of Best Newcomer to the Business Continuity Industry in 2004. Helen is well known within the industry and is an active member of the Leeds City Centre Network & Business Continuity Forum and the North of England BCI Forum. Helen has also been invited to speak at a number of events and is a visiting lecturer for Continuity Shop, Continuity Systems and the Cabinet Office's Emergency Planning College.

Ian developed his interest in the causes of and human responses to disasters whilst reading Geography at Durham where he specialised in transport and environmental issues. After a short career as a school teacher he worked as a project manager and systems designer for a Facilities Management company with several blue-chip clients.
His contingency planning experience was gained with a warm-start facility supplier where he developed concepts and methods to assist clients in all aspects of contingency planning. He has applied these to projects in the manufacturing, insurance, construction, transport, financial services, health care, NGO, computer services, petrochemical, retail, government and local authority sectors.
He was elected a Member of the Business Continuity Institute in 1997, a Fellow in 2004 and is now an elected Board member and held the position of Chair of its Education Committee for two years. He presents a Foundation course on Business Continuity and specialist workshops on BIA, Planning and Exercising. As an author he contributed to 'The Definitive Handbook to Business Continuity Management' (Wiley) and has written provocative articles on continuity methodology and concepts in well-respected journals.
